Top 5 Countries Using Solar Power

We’ve seen significant strides in the use and promotion of Solar Power; this being the case, countries globally have invested and are already harnessing much of the sun’s power.

Here are the top 5 countries that are using Solar Power:

5. The United States with 18,317 MW

“The U.S. is the fastest developed growth market for solar globally and in 2016 will be the highest growth market overall,” said Mohit Anand, GTM’s senior analyst for Global Solar Markets. The Obama administration pushed and prioritized the increase in low- or zero-carbon electricity sources adding approximately 668,000 homes since he took office.

3. Japan with 23,409 MW

After the shift from Nuclear Power dependency after the Fukushima nuclear accident, the first three solar plants by TEPCO were completed in 2011 and 2012. These facilities account for most of the solar power generated in the region.

2. China with 28,330 MW

Though China is the world’s biggest contributor to greenhouse gases, it has been pushing the use of Solar Power aggressively. China’s installed solar capacity has increased 13-fold since 2011, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. China also houses the largest Solar Powerplant in the world.

1.Germany with 38,250 MW

Germany’s success in the use of Solar Power is a strong combination of public and government-driven support. It started in 1991 (25 years ago!) when politicians passed the Renewable Energy Sources Act. Now they are already reaping the benefits of their investment.
